New-Look Bills End With Same Result: No Playoffs

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) — Quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick has an appointment with the barber shortly after he attends the final team meeting of the season.

The unruly, bushy beard he’s been growing since taking over as starter in Week 3 is coming off Monday. If only the Bills’ transformation from perennial loser to clean-shaven contender could happen as quickly.

The Bills (4-12) missed the playoffs for an 11th straight season, by closing with consecutive 31-point losses to bookend an 0-8 start.

Despite showing some signs of life under first-year coach Chan Gailey, the finish was a reminder of how many holes they have to fill. That rebuilding process will take place in an offseason in which Buffalo has the No. 3 pick in the NFL Draft.

Bills DE Edwards Placed on IR

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. starting defensive end Dwan Edwards is done for the season after being placed on injured reserve Thursday because of a hamstring injury.

Edwards signed with the Bills this past offseason as a free agent, and had started all 11 games. He was injured in Sunday’s overtime loss to the .

Edwards finishes the year tied for fourth on the team with 59 tackles.

The Bills also signed tight end Mike Caussin Thursday. He spent the first 12 weeks of the season on Jacksonville’s practice squad.

Buffalo now has four tight ends on its roster, but tight end Shawn Nelson has been sidelined since last week because of migraines.
